Join the ahi: for this important event providing sector professionals with the opportunity to hear from Leaders within the industry who are committed to increased engagement and delivery focus and what lessons we have learnt from the Victorian Big Build. It's also a great opportunity to exchange ideas and innovative practice in Victoria and around our Australasian ahi: focus.

The key guest speaker will Renee Cullen from Housing Victoria to share insights from the Big Housing Build in Victoria – how's it going, what lessons have been learned around key work engagement.

We then flow into a panel discussion where the leaders will focus on the panel question What can we do as a sector as we increase delivery focus?

Acting Chief Development Officer Director, Large Scale Partnerships of Homes Victoria

Renee has more than 15 years of experience in the building construction and infrastructure industries delivering complex and large-scale construction projects for State governments across Australia. Renee moved into the construction and infrastructure sector following a career as a lawyer in the private practice.

Renee spent almost a decade within the Queensland health sector delivering new hospital builds and health facility redevelopments across the Sunshine Coast. This included the delivery of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital under a PPP model and the co-located private hospital and clinical outsourcing arrangements. Renee was also responsible for leading the strategy and masterplanning of infrastructure and clinical service delivery across the Sunshine Coast region.

Renee joined Homes Victoria in 2021 as the Director Large Scale Partnerships and has overseen the construction delivery and transition to operations for Australia’s first Ground Lease Model project; a social, affordable and private housing development across metropolitan Melbourne. Following the success of the first Ground Lease Model under a PPP framework, Renee is now leading the delivery of the Ground Lease Model 2 program and the first stage of the Flemington high-rise public towers redevelopment that was announced as part of Victoria’s Housing Statement in 2023. Renee is also responsible for the Public Housing Renewal Program, delivering more than 1,300 homes across metropolitan Melbourne under a Development Agreement model.

Danny was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Community Housing Limited on 9 May 2024.

Since joining the Community Housing Ltd Group in 2008, he has held various positions within the organisation. Particularly significant was his tenure as the General Manager of Project Services during which time CHL substantially expanded their CHL Group's portfolio from 850 to 12,000 properties nationwide.

In 2022, as part of a leadership transition, Danny was appointed as the Deputy CEO where he successfully oversaw the management of CHL’s operations and steered the organisation through a transformational change.

Danny has worked in residential property development for over twenty years with a focus on making housing affordable for first-time buyers and assisting young people with home ownership.
Danny is a strong advocate for policies that promote housing affordability and he likes to work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions that improve housing accessibility for a wider demographic.

DR. Michael Fotheringham

Dr Michael Fotheringham has held leadership roles at the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute since 2014. As Managing Director he is responsible for setting the national housing research agenda and curating an internationally lauded policy research evidence base on housing, homelessness and urban issues.

Michael is a member of the national council of National Shelter, and currently serves on a variety of expert advisory panels including the Australian Government’s Urban Policy Forum, the Housing Supply Expert Panel, the Greater Cities Commission Peak Reference Group, ANZSOG Research Council, Social Policy Research Centre Advisory Board, the Homes for Homes Housing Advisory Group, and is a former non-executive director of Homelessness Australia.

Michael provides expert advice to Commonwealth and State Ministers, and is sought for evidence-informed advice by senior policy makers in Australia and internationally. He is an in-demand media spokesperson, conference speaker, and event facilitator.

Sean is a dedicated housing professional with a career spanning leadership roles across Northern Ireland, London, and Australia. With deep experience in affordable and social housing policy, I’ve successfully managed multi-disciplinary teams and delivered high-profile projects for both government and private sector clients.

Advocacy has been at the heart of his career as he is passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable populations by ensuring they have access to safe, stable housing. Sean's work has consistently focused on support services and policies that uplift those who cannot advocate for themselves.

He believes that housing is not just a basic need but a platform for improving other life outcomes, and is a strong advocate of the Housing First approach, which provides the stability essential for long-term success.

Sean's strategic policy experience covers affordable housing delivery and broader social policy frameworks contributing to the development and implementation of sector-wide strategies on behalf of both the State Government of Western Australia and the Community Housing Sector.

Sean's postgraduate study in Social Sciences (Housing Management and Policy) further honed his ability to research, write, and implement policies that address not just housing tenure but the entire spectrum of factors that impact people's well-being.

Sean remains committed to both improving housing provision and professionalising the sector, with a focus on long-term, impactful change.

Robert has e spent most of his professional life advocating for and supporting the development of community managed housing. He chose upon graduation in the early 1980s to join the then Housing Corporation of NZ.
Roberts first role was managing the funding programmes for local authorities and community housing organisations. Robert was one of three people in the HNZC's inaugral Community Housing Division and has been in this space ever since.

This has included significant sector relationship management, housing policy, strategic policy, operational management (including overseeing a significant investment programmes) and change management experience and skills.

Robert is passionate about social housing and in particular about a bigger role for community housing providers to complement the important role of public (State) housing. As Group Manager Social Housing Sector in Victoria he worked closely and positively with community housing providers during a period of significant sector reform.

Robert believes in community housing providers (both in Victoria and in New Zealand) and will continue to do whatever he can to support their bigger future.

Trudi’s extensive knowledge of the housing and homelessness sector, coupled with her deep regional connections and commitment to social justice drives Haven Home Safe’s successful delivery of housing and homelessness solutions.

As CEO Trudi is focused on delivering impactful outcomes for communities through diverse housing options and connected communities. Trudi drives HHS’ social mandate, underpinned by a commercial discipline that sets the organisation up for growth and the ability to deliver outcomes across our ten regional and metropolitan Victorian locations. Trudi is a vocal advocate for increased social and affordable housing and better funding for support services to improve people’s health, wellbeing, connection and economic participation.

Trudi is Chair of CHIA Victoria, a Victorian Director of the Australian Housing Institute and was part of the Property Council of Australia’s 500 Women in Property 2022 program, in recognition of her dedication and leadership in the sector. Trudi has recently been appointed to the Geelong Chapter of the UDIA after finishing a two-year term on the UDIA Inclusion and Diversity Committee.

Trudi’s other credentials include GAICD, MBA with commendation, Harvard Executive Leadership Graduate, Certified Senior Professional with the Australian Housing Industry (SPAHIc) and Justice of the Peace.
