As a Housing Professional, you may have tenants who are experiencing Family and Domestic Violence (FDV), and want to learn how to work effectively with them, to provide best practice support.


This workshop will provide you with frameworks, best practice standards and legislation, to help you understand your role and responsibilities in dealing with tenants experiencing Family and Domestic Violence.

Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Awareness in Housing training is designed to help the social & affordable housing industry to develop skills and understanding in providing assurance to tenants and other stakeholders that they can respond effectively to domestic and family violence situations as a housing professional. This includes knowledge of the Residential tenancies legislation.


Domestic and family violence is the most common cause of homelessness and results in thousands of women and children turning to crisis accommodation each year. This workshop will cover the following:

  • Identify - Understand the impact of domestic and family violence and know how to engage in developing an effective housing relationship that enables the victim-survivor to make decisions about their tenancy and support needs.
  • Support - To sensitively respond and provide support to victim-survivors to effectively manage their tenancy and identify the supports they might need during times of crisis to assist them to sustain safe housing and minimise the risk of becoming homeless.
  • Refer - Effective collaborative relationships are established with domestic and family violence and mainstream support services to facilitate referral to a range of services for victim-survivors and/or people using violence when requested or needed.
  • Professional Wellbeing & Supports – Understand the possible risk factors and look at implementing strategies that support your wellbeing at work and in your personal life. Being aware of the potential impact of this work on your own wellbeing and taking steps to minimise the negative impacts are important strategies of self-care.

  • A 3-hour interactive workshop via Zoom
  • Participants need access to PC/Laptop with speakers, microphone and webcam

This workshop is suitable for all government and community housing employees working directly with tenants, who wish to develop a better understanding of how to deal with Domestic and Family Violence situations.
