Community housing organisations have a responsibility to ensure tenancies are managed in accordance with tenancy law. This workshop provides community housing workers with an introductory understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (RTA) in Victoria.

 

This workshop covers the legal and regulatory requirements of housing and tenancy management within Victoria including the duties and responsibilities of renters and rental providers, some of the key legal documents referred to in tenancy management and the legalities of key tenancy functions including rents, inspections and Tribunal.

The workshop takes a blended learning approach

  • Enjoy a 4-hour fully interactive online Zoom session: join the Zoom session from any device, laptop, desktop, tablet or mobile phone
  • Upon completion, gain access to online downloadable self-study materials to reinforce learning


What you'll learn: 

  • Understand the importance and purpose of the RTA
  • General responsibilities of renters and rental providers (previously referred to as tenants and landlords)
  • Introduction to legal documents including Residential Rental Agreement, Condition Report and Mandatory Disclosures
  • Learn the regulations relevant to core tenancy function in community housing including rents, inspections and ending tenancies
  • Introduction to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
  • Overview of other regulatory requirements and how they relate to community housing providers
