Jolene Ellat Senior Principal Practitioner at Stopping Family Violence Jolene is an experienced Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) specialist focused on building systemic and culturally grounded foundations to ensure capabilities building within the FDV sector. Jolene is employed as a Senior Principal Practitioner for Stopping Family Violence. Jolene has a breadth of knowledge and experience through delivering front line services and managing front line services across family law, men’s behaviour change programs, women’s advocacy and children’s advocacy programs. Jolene has had the opportunity to sit on various committees and networks across Australia and currently sits on a reform committee through the Department of Communities, the Pilbara Family Domestic Violence Network, and a number of collaborative networks across Western Australia. Within her current role, Jolene oversees several territory and national projects across Australia. In addition, Jolene is an intensive unit lecturer at the Australian College of Applied Psychology teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students across Counselling and Psychology. Jolene has a sound academic background completing a Bachelor of Arts Education (Psychology and Education) from Edith Cowan University, a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Studies from Curtin University, Human centered-design from ACUMEN and a Master of Counselling from the University of Notre Dame. Jolene is about to embark on Doctoral studies in 2022. Jolene has a passion for ensuring FDV informed best practice standards are maintained through policy reform, training and consultation across organisations that intersect with families experiencing FDV. Jolene has a special interest in cultural diversity and competency when working with families from a diverse background as well as those impacted by FDV. Jolene’s passion for building staff capabilities has led her to deliver training across Perth and regional areas as well as guest speaking on webinars and conferences nationally and internationally. Jolene recently became an inaugural Fellow for the ‘She Runs Campaign School’ which supports women to enter politics. Jolene made incredible connections during her time in campaign school and is currently looking to work on a number of government campaigns run locally.
Sharyn Frawley Outreach Services Manager at Zonta House Refuge Association Sharyn is a qualified social worker with postgraduate expertise in community development. Sharyn has extensive experience across the practice contexts of family and domestic violence (FDV), child protection, exiting prison and reintegration services, homelessness, and mental health – in the NGO and government sectors. Sharyn’s clinical work is heavily influenced by the theoretical and practice-based frameworks of Narrative Practices and Response-Based practice. Sharyn is currently the Outreach Services Manager at Zonta House Refuge Association, where she manages six Outreach program including Safer Pathways, Positive Pathways, Recovery Support Program, ReSet Housing, Parenting and Reintegration, and Future Employment Connections. Sharyn has worked as a sessional academic and her research interests lie in FDV policy and legislation, human rights, humanitarian aid and sustainable development.
Pauline Thomas Training Coordinator at Zonta House Refuge Association Pauline joined Zonta House Refuge Association (ZHRA) in June 2021 to develop the Empowerment Through Education program. She comes to ZHRA most recently from Lifeline WA where she was delivering training for the Nationally accredited ‘DV-Alert’ program and other crisis intervention community education workshops. Zonta’s new Empowerment Through Education program is delivering FDV awareness and prevention workshops designed around response and strengths-based approaches to recognising and responding to FDV experiences. Aimed at delivery to a variety of sectors including community groups and organisations, corporate, HR and leadership teams, government, and non-government bodies the 3-hr workshops are interactive and aimed at improving skills and knowledge for family and domestic violence prevention, early intervention specialised FDV crisis intervention. Pauline has a BA (Psychology) from Murdoch University, is a certified workplace trainer and assessor, and brings qualifications for and experience in crisis counselling. Pauline’s energetic and non-judgemental approach to her workshop delivery helps create a comfortable and respectful adult learning space for ETE participants.
Matt Vapor Founder of Beneath the Surface Motivation & Coaching Founded in 2018, Beneath the Surface Motivation and Coaching (BTSMC) provides organisations and community groups with presentations and workshops about mental health, obesity, addiction, domestic violence and homelessness. These presentations and workshops are based on Matt Vapor's lived experience and provides people with a greater understanding of issues beneath the surface of a diagnosis or condition. BTSMC also provides life coaching to those looking for help with weight and/or mental health issues. BTSMC helps people identify the goals and their hurdles and helps create a pathway for people to overcome their challenges and reach their potential.
